Corporation Profile
The Borough of Arima (population 35,000) is the fourth largest town in Trinidad and Tobago, located 26 km (16 miles) east of the capital, Port of Spain. The Arima Borough Corporation which is a body corporate, comprises the Mayor, Aldermen, Councillors and Burgesses of the Borough. It was originally established under the Arima Corporation Ordinance Chap. 39 No. 11 (1950 ed.). In 1990, greater political decentralization was effected with the promulgation of the Municipal Corporation's Act - Act No. 21 of 1990. The Borough of Arima was created by Royal Charter granted by Queen Victoria in the year 1888. This Royal Chartered Borough extends over approximately four (4) square miles and is comprised of an area which is bounded as follows:
–On the North by the Arima Bye Pass Road and the Blanchisseuse Road,
–On the East by the Arima River, Maturita Trace, Arima Bye Pass Road and Eastern Main Road,
–On the South by the southern side of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway,
–On the West by the Mausica River , Part of Victory Gardens and Calvary Branch Trace.
