Creation of an Urban Design Framework
Across the world, very few, if any, urban places work perfectly. Most work well in some ways and less well in others. Viewed in a global perspective, Trinidad and Tobago is fortunate in that none of its urban places work so badly that they could be considered disastrous: however, many of them do have significant problems and could work much better if changes could be achieved – sometimes small changes, sometimes major ones.
An Urban Design Framework is being produced for Trinidad and Tobago to show how existing places can be adapted and changed, over time, to iron out problems and shortcomings, and how similar problems can be avoided when new places are created – by designing them out from the outset. An assessment of Urban Design Principles for Trinidad and Tobago has been produced and can be viewed here:

Design of a Participatory Consultation Framework
Participatory consultation is being utilized increasingly in development planning to encourage consensus building, make decision-making more democratic and involve the beneficiaries directly in the development process as participants. This approach has come after many years of a top down process in which beneficiaries were simply asked to “buy in” to the decisions already made for them. Consultants have been engaged on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government to produce a Framework to guide the process of Participatory Consultation.
